A farmer from Bargarh district on Tuesday died at the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla while undergoing treatment.
According to reports, the farmer identified as Khainu Bagarti of Kenpalli village, who was allegedly under debt burden, had consumed poison on Sunday after sustaining severe crop loss. As news of Khainu’s death broke out, fellow villagers blocked the road at the village square demanding compensation for the bereaved family, reports added.
Local sources said Khainu was under immense mental pressure as to how to repay his loans after his crops failed. When, after consuming poison, his health condition deteriorated his family members had got him admitted at the VIMSAR.
