In a major relief to Baleswar BJD MP Rabindra Kumar Jena, the Orissa High Court on Monday granted interim protection to him from arrest till next three weeks in connection with his alleged complicity with the Seashore Group, a major player in the mega chit fund scam in the State.

The next hearing in the case would be held after three weeks.

The HC order came as a major breather for the MP when no non-nonsense officer Manish Kumar Sinha has come back as the SIT DIG in Bhubaneswar. During Sinha’s term as the CBI SIT SP in 2014, many influential persons were arrested and interrogated.

Jena had moved the High Court seeking anticipatory bail on January 13, a day after the CBI raided his houses in Baleswar and New Delhi.

Jena had earlier presented himself before the CBI on December 10 last year after being summoned and was questioned for around seven hours over his alleged links with the chit fund firm.

Jena headed the Supratik Group of companies, which had lent an amount of Rs 18 crore to the Seashore Group in 2010. The money collection company had paid back the lion’s share of the money but still owed Rs 1.86 crore to him, sources said.
