MLA Rourkela Met Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for Brahmani Bridge issue

On 24th March 2017 Sri Dilip Ray met Shri Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping at New Delhi and discussed at length over the issue of the Brahmani Bridge. He requested him to initiate the required steps for faster construction of the Bridge- which he apprised him- is associated with the sentiments of the people of Rourkela. He also informed him about the great inconveniences people of Rourkela face due to the poor condition of the present bridge which may collapse anytime. Sri N. Gadkari assured to Dilip Ray that the work on the bridge will start as soon as possible as the process for floating the tender has always been initiated .He also informed that he will lay the foundation stone of the project in May and the work will commence immediately in June this year.

Sri Dilip Ray called on Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Sansad Bhavan, New Delhi and discussed with him on two important issues having significance for the people of Rourkela. Sri Ray said ” I have been focusing on the Brahmani bridge and Super -specialty status for IGH since the last three years. I have been meeting concerned ministers and bureaucrats and even met the Prime Minister once before to give thrust to these two projects. Today again, I took up these two issues with the Prime Minster and sought his urgent intervention to expedite the projects which could address the key concerns of the people of Rourkela and adjacent areas. I apprised him of the discontent of the people of Rourkela for the delay in execution of the projects.” As per Ray the Prime Minister empathized with the concerns of the people of Rourkela and assured him of speedier actions for early completion of the projects.

Students of NIT-Rourkela have put their skills for better use by launching an e-shopping website.

Rourkela: Keeping track with the changing tastes and lifestyles of the younger generation, a group of students of NIT-Rourkela have put their skills for better use by launching an e-shopping website.

The site http://www.Pennyindia.com has not only caught the attention of youths, but also has created employment opportunities with the techies suddenly becoming a source of inspiration for their peers. The group comprises Sarada Prasad Sahoo (CEO), Abhijit Sahoo (COO), Biswajit Kiro (chief graphic designer), Abhipsa Panigrahi (chief content editor), Sourav Kumar Panda (HR) and offline marketing head Shiv Shankar Sahoo.

“Though we are from different branches, we gel well and aspire to transform our small initiative into a big company and generate more job opportunities in future,” said Sarada. They aim to become self-reliant instead of running behind jobs, he added. According to reports, the trainee engineers have started the business with little assistance from their families. The website provides an assortment of clothes and food items and offers them to customers at extremely competitive prices.

In the first phase, they have bought a printing machine, colours and T-shirts investing about Rs 12 lakh. A customer can avail up to 50 per cent discount if prefers to shop through their site, the promoters of the site claimed. Launched in March 2016, the site has managed to have a customer base of over 12,000 so far of which nearly 80 per cent belong to 18-25 age group, it was learnt. Every day, they get orders of material worth something between Rs 40,000 and Rs 50,000, said Abhijit.

Attracted by their entrepreneurship, 10 more students of VSSUT of Burla, CET and IIT of Bhubaneswar and GIET, Gunupur have joined the company. They would soon launch another website to expand their business. Meanwhile, the college authorities have provided them spaces in TIIR building of NIT to set up a temporary office and install the T-shirt printing machine.

At present, the group members spend three to four hours a day after their class hours apart from working for two whole days – Saturday and Sunday- a week. They have decided to compete with the branded T-shirts available in the market by offering the customers better quality and designs at reasonable price.

Two members of the PLFI were killed during an exchange of fire between security personnel and rebels at Sorada forest in Sundargarh district, Odisha

 

Rourkela: The incident took place early Thursday morning when the members of the District Volunteer Force (DVF), Sundargarh police, were out on a search operation in view of the ensuing panchayat polls in the area.
“At least two members of the PLFI died during the 30-minute encounter. We suspect some other rebels have also sustained injuries,” IG, Western Range, R K Sharma told media.

“Circumstantial evidence suggests that some four to five members of the group were injured in the gun battle,” the IG said, adding two police officials also received minor injuries in the encounter. The police have seized a huge amount of arms from the PLFI camp, the IG said. Stating that the security forces had definite information about the movement of the PLFI cadre, Sharma said about 15 rebels were in the camp inside the jungle.

Sharma said the police team retaliated when the PLFI members opened fire on them.
The police recovered an AK-47, a point 303 rifle, seven single barrel guns, one revolver and an SLR, Sharma said adding that the police also seized three magazines of AK-47, 194 live cartridges, 45 mobile phones and one tablet, dresses, shoes, PLFI literature, some empty cartridges, medicines and other articles of daily use and food materials from the spot.
